QUI VOL SER

MILIONARI

WHO WOULD BE A MILLIONARY? ENGLISH WORKSHOP IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS, GIVEN BY OUR STUDENTS OF 4TH OF ESO

The Bellvitge Institut has organized an English language workshop for 6th grade primary school students in the neighbourhood.

The activity proposed by our center is a didactic and playful competition using the English language. Using the application Kahoot, which emulates the famous TV quiz Who want to be a millionaire?, pupils answered questions from their computers.
From the Department of Foreign Languages we try to relate English to other subjects. For this reason, the questions of the contest revolved around the subject “Famous figures of the culture and the science”. As a basic tool for learning, 30 pieces were used, each devoted to a personality in the world of culture (music, literature, art) and science. Each card will include an iconic image, as well as a small text English with the main biographical data and any possible curiosity that engages students’ interest. The files were prepared and drafted by our students of 4th of ESO, under the guidance of their English teachers.

These cards were the thematic basis for articulating the questions of the contest “Who wants to be a millionaire?” that took place on the day of our visit. The main activity was to participate in the team competition and answer questions about 15 characters.

The chosen characters are figures that every student should know. This time we chose the following:

Elvis Presley, William Shakespeare, Salvador Dalí, Albert Einstein, El Cid, Margaret Thatcher, Julio César, Frida Kahlo, Nelson Mandela, Charles Chaplin, Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Ludwig van Beethoven, John Lennon, John Kennedy, Miguel de Cervantes, Thomas Edison, Coco Channel, Marlon Brandon, Fidel Castro, Neil Armstrong, Marie Curie, Michael Jackson, Audrey Hepburn, Maria Callas, Benazir Bhutto, Nikola Tesla, Ana María Matute, Yasir Arafat, Frank Sinatra, Maria Teresa de Calcutta, Steve Jobs, Johan Cruyff, Mao Tse Tun, Pablo Picasso, Bob Marley, Camilo José Cela, Alfred Hitchcock, Isabel la Católica, Bette Davis, Mercè Rodoreda, Amy Winehouse, Josep Pla, Arthur Conan Doyle, Walt Disney, Virginia Woolf, Gabriel García Márquez.

In addition, the workshop is organized in previous and later activities that activate previous knowledge and promote oral expression, respectively.
